Updates on Snow and Versus’ Names

by hateradio on October 23rd, 2008

FFXIII, Versus XIII

As previously reported, the names for both Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII for certain characters have finally been revealed. In a current scan from Famitsu the former Mr. 33cm gets a last name, as it stands his full name is Snow Villiers. Although it is not certain whether or not this is a “code name” (like Lightning’s is thought to be) it appears that this may for a fact be more than just an alias.

The latest Chinise edition of Famitsu Magazine gives us the Latin alphabet’s spelling for Noctis’ name which is Noctis Lucis Caelum, until now the spelling of his middle and last names were translated from the Japanese Katakana characters; his name, once again, roughly translates to of night, of light, of sky. Although not in the scan, Stella’s name is Stella Nox Fleuret meaning star, darkness, sword. As it stands, it seems that Verus will have strong ties to Latin in relation to names, and FFXIII to weather motifs.

Moreover, from IGN, Nomura talked about the personalities of both the Versus characters, revealing that Stella is a princes from the Fleuret family and that darkness is the meaning behind her country’s name. She is quite extroverted, making most of the contact with Noctis, who is more reserved like previous Final Fantasy heroes although he’s not cold like Cloud, for instance, and is mostly shy. He plays cool and may seem to be on way while talking, but in fact, those that know him know better than that.

Mr. 33cm’s New Name And Versus

by hateradio on October 15th, 2008

FFXIII, Versus XIII

In the current Shonen Jump magazine, Square-Enix has finally revealed the name for the 33cm shoe-wearing male, and just like his comrade Lightning, it relates to weather, and something that comes out of clouds: Snow. So far, we don’t know what particular aspects their names have in relation to the game’s plot, if any.

In Versus XIII news, the Prince and his blond friend now have full names: Noctis Lucius Cheram ( ノクティス・ルシス・チェラム ) and Stella Nox Fulure (ステラ・ノックス・フルーレ), quite fancy don’t you think? Once again, from the last article, Noctis means “of the night” and Stella means “star” but the rest are as follows: Lucius derives from “light” Nox may be a reference to a goddess of the night in Greek mythology. Cheram and Fulure are still unknown.

Moreover, here are some post-TGS 08 bits from the Versus trailer (loosely translated by a member of NeoGAF)

Stella: (Lord) Noctis can see the light also, right? I also can see it.
Some time ago, down stairs, ..that thing we saw, that was the ‘light’ wasn’t it?
Stella: It’s said in Tenebuira that when the Goddess Etro opens the gate connected between the deceased country light is seldomly seen, however, if seen the said person will be awarded some kind of ‘power’
Noctis: That’s the same deal here, it seems.
Stella: (Lord) Noctis was gifted with the said ‘power’?
Noctis: It’s rather better not to talk about those things.
It’s different from person to person but one way or another it will bring about trouble.
(Noctis walks away a bit and slumps onto a chair)
Stella: That ‘light’, what do you think it really is?
Noctis: It’s always ‘there’ am I not right? Hm…
(suggesting he doesn’t know who she is right now)
Stella: I’m Stella.
Noctis: Ah, Stella.., I’ll have to be leaving soon.
Stella: I’m sorry for holding you up, Lord Noctis.
Noctis: Just ‘Noct’ is fine.
Stella: I’ll also be leaving. Today I feel that I also received that so called ‘power’.
I was able to talk to you. If it’s good for you, next time please come to Tenebuira.
I’ll show you around.
Noctis: That seems good.. I’ll give it some thought.
(Stella leaves)
(Noctis raises his head towards a sound coming)
“Who… are you?”
Noctis: That’s my line.

FFXIII and Versus XIII at TGS 2008

by hateradio on October 13th, 2008

FFXIII, Versus XIII

This year’s Tokyo Game Show contained a bit of information regarding Square-Enix’s new games; although there was supposed to be a 45 minute demonstration of FFXIII, that show ended 20 minutes earlier than stated, only showing a few bits of more footage on the previous trailers. The biggest part of the show was the reveal of two new songs from the game.

Overall nothing new was shown for Versus except for additional footage of its trailer, and the main characters names, which are Noctics for the Prince, and Stella for the blond girl. Both names are rooted in Latin/Italian, with noctis meaning “the night’s” or “of the night” and Stella being “star.”

Additionally, Final Fantasy XIII’s red-haired female character is Sera, Italian for “evening.”
