FFXIII Failed DLC, FFXIII-2 Possibility

FFXIII Ultimania Omega was released in Japan recently, and it had information on the future of Final Fantasy XIII. At this point the future is unknown, and the factor is because of a few things. There was suppose to be DLC entitled Seventh Ark that was planned, but was cut due to the differences in the way both the 360 and the PS3 handle downloads. The team also saw issues with terms of quality content and terms of technical aspects. So, in other words, the team was having issues getting the area to work well. This never to be seen Seventh Ark was originally suppose to be in the game, but was cut due to time constraints. Seventh Ark was going to be an extra area with optional free battles and a quest structure. About the possibility of Final Fantasy XIII-2 coming along, that is currently up in the air as of now. It has to be demanded by fans in order to be created. The chances are slim, though, since Kitase has said that the Final Fantasy XIII team has already moved on to the next project.

FFXIII Releasing on 360 in Japan

Final Fantasy XIII is going to make it’s way to the Xbox 360 in Japan. This was revealed in the latest Dengeki, and it only details a bit about the game. The game will have English voice acting, an easy mode, and will release December 16, 2010 in Japan. That all the information that is known so far.

Wada Speaks about FFXIII

In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Yoichi Wada talked about Final Fantasy XIII and how it was accepted. Wada speaks about the numbers, and he is happy with how the game has sold in the regions it was sold in. He notes that the game was both taken as a good thing and as a bad thing to some. He notes that a lot of people have different opinions, but doesn’t say that either of them are wrong. Read the parts of the interview about Final Fantasy XIII below.

Now that Final Fantasy XIII has launched globally, in the end were you satisfied with its performance and the audience reaction to the title?

Yoichi Wada: Looking at the numbers alone, it is pretty good, because we were able to release the latest Final Fantasy in all three markets of Japan, United States, and Europe in a very short period of time, and we were able to reach 5 million units rapidly — and I think this product will grow further. But when it comes to the customers’ reaction to the quality of the game, some value it highly and some are not very happy with it.

What do you think about how the game turned out?

Yoichi Wada: I think this is a product that was able to meet the expectations for those who know Final Fantasy. There are all kinds of games around in the market today. Should Final Fantasy become a new type of the game or should Final Fantasy not become a new type of game? The customers have different opinions. It’s very difficult to determine which way it should go.

FFXIII reaches 1.2 Million Sales

Final Fantasy XIII has sold 1.2 million copies in North America and Europe. That brings the worldwide total to 3 million if you include Japan where the game has been out for a while. The sales are also in favor of the Playstation 3, with 61% sold on the PS3, and 39% on the Xbox 360. So far, Final Fantasy XIII is selling pretty well, and it shall be interesting to see how much the game sales over time.

FFXIII-2 Could Happen, FFXV Unknown

There might be a Final Fantasy XIII-2 happening sometime in the future. WriteAboutGames sat down with Kitase and they talked about Freedom, HD, and Sequel. In Freedom, Kitase talked about how Final Fantasy games are intentionally made to be focused on story than more open like Western RPGs. He even went as far as to compare Final Fantasy XIII to Call of Duty. In HD, he talked about how some fans might be upset in what they are doing in Final Fantasy XIII, but that the development team needs to try something new, and he hopes that fans tag along. In Sequel, he stated that he would love for a Final Fantasy XIII-2 game to release, since they spent so much time creating the worlds and the systems. It all depends on how well it sells. Another interesting tidbit in Sequel is that, “We do not know if there will be a XV. This depends a lot on the success of XIII.”

FNC Trilogy Themes Explained

At GDC recently, Motomu Toriyama talked about the other two Fabula Nova Crystalis games that are being worked on, and how they connect with each other; the other two FNC games being Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Motomu Toriyama stated, “Agito and Versus won’t be sequels to the recently released Final Fantasy XIII — they’ll both have their own unique set of characters, gameplay systems and overarching stories. The only thing connecting them is the “Crystal Mythos” motif — a theme where the fates of ordinary humans are controlled by omnipotent gods. Players of Final Fantasy XIII should already be acquainted with this storytelling device.” He also gave out another detail, “The rest of the series will continue to focus on story-driven gameplay rather than allowing the player to explore an open world.” Very interesting.

To date, the Final Fantasy franchise has shipped 96 million units worldwide, which is a staggering number. FFXIII Releases Today in NA and EU

Today is a great day for Final Fantasy fans, since Final Fantasy XIII releases today. This will also be the first Final Fantasy to come out on the same day in North America and in Europe. Some fans were able to pick up the game early, and for those who have I hope you are enjoying the game.
