Versus and Agito Footage Leaked

TGS brought us new footage that we have not yet seen of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. The beginning of the Versus footage has Noctis near a fence and the logo of the game is on the bottom left. Then, you can see him go through a deserted wasteland area in the daytime. Shortly after, the footage changes to a street at night, where Noctis encounters a Behemoth creature that he must fight. As Noctis fights the Behemoth with his sword, you can see blood splatter from the hits that the enemy takes. Then, the footage ends with the Fabula Nova Crystallis logo on a black background.

The beginning of the Agito footage seems to start with a CG scene, with the logo on the bottom right. It appears that there is a summon crest of some sort. Then, it goes to soldiers walking in a line preparing for war. The rest of the footage shows off the battle system of the game. It looks pretty interesting, with the HP bars at the bottom, and the characters on the screen battling enemies. The enemies range from typical soldiers, to huge enemies, and flying enemies. There is one large enemy shown climbing up a building. The environments seem to be quite detailed as well. There seems to be a plain location, a desert location, and a location where it’s raining. The footage then ends with the characters all in a pose.

For now, all we have is off screen sort of bad quality footage. Nomura has spoken recently on Twitter, and has stated, “This time, all the PVs from the Open and Closed theaters will be released.” So, we should expect to see the footage that was released during TGS to be online in high quality soonish. He goes on to say, “We’re having outside contractors make the sites for each game, so it seems that uploading the videos isn’t a simple thing.” Basically, it isn’t going to be that soon, but it shouldn’t be longer than maybe a few months. The last thing he tweets about is, “Please wait a bit for the release of all.” Patience is a virtue for the footage, but at least we were able to get a taste of them instead of waiting for Square to release them online.

More information on both games should be at the Fabula Nova Crystallis conference on January 11, 2011.

Versus/Agito XIII Combined Trailer at TGS

If you are looking forward to new footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and/or Final Fantasy Agito XIII, then you are in luck once TGS rolls around. Nomura has stated on the 3rd Birthday Twitter that Versus, as well as Agito, will be a part of a Fabula Nova Crystallis video at TGS. This video will be shown on monitors in the demo line areas, and will not be a part of the open theater. The footage of Versus will include the scenes that were in both the Famitsu and Dengeki magazines. The Agito footage will be totally new and will resemble what the final product will look like. Nomura stated that he isn’t able to show much due to the fact that both games have no set release date.

Voice Casting starts for Agito and Versus

New Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII news comes from an unlikely source, 3rd Birthday’s Twitter. About Versus, Nomura tweeted that, “Versus has had many difficulties, and past method of production have been completely inapplicable, but these are the difficulties of birth, so we are working hard. We have a lot to announce, but because we’re going in order, I can’t say too much yet.” He also talked a bit more about Versus saying, “There have been many questions regarding fields. It’s not a completely open world. It’s like the 2D FF games in HD. Although, in terms of looks, it’s not a top-down view, it’s like the screenshots that have been released. You’ll move through the world from that view.”

Besides the talk of just Versus, he also brought up the voice casting for Versus and Agito. Nomura states that, “Agito and Versus have different production styles and progress states, but they’re both presently undergoing voice casting. 3rd’s recording will end shortly. Next up is Agito.” Also, don’t expect to see Versus or Agito at Gamescom, because Nomura stated that both games will not show up at this event. It also might be some time before we both see both games release as well with this tweet, “There are a number of unannounced titles. These will come before Agito and Versus. Some have finished voice recording. Announcements will take place in Japan.” Hopefully, those other games won’t take too long, and maybe we can get some more information on Versus and Agito this coming TGS.

New Agito Information

Nomura was recently interviewed in the latest Famitsu/Dengeki PlayStation magazines. He talked about Final Fantasy Agito XIII, and you can read about the information he talked about below.

- The game is in the tuning phase of development.
- There is a world map in the game, and you can ride chocobos on it and fly an airship around as well.
- Agito XIII and The 3rd Birthday are going to be the greatest titles on the PSP ever.

FNC Trilogy Themes Explained

At GDC recently, Motomu Toriyama talked about the other two Fabula Nova Crystalis games that are being worked on, and how they connect with each other; the other two FNC games being Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Motomu Toriyama stated, “Agito and Versus won’t be sequels to the recently released Final Fantasy XIII — they’ll both have their own unique set of characters, gameplay systems and overarching stories. The only thing connecting them is the “Crystal Mythos” motif — a theme where the fates of ordinary humans are controlled by omnipotent gods. Players of Final Fantasy XIII should already be acquainted with this storytelling device.” He also gave out another detail, “The rest of the series will continue to focus on story-driven gameplay rather than allowing the player to explore an open world.” Very interesting.

Famitsu Updates

The latest Famitsu gave us some more information on the three Final Fantasy games in development: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Positive news came about Final Fantasy XIII, there will be no PS3 install. There will be 500kb save files, and only minimal loading. Final Fantasy Versus XIII isn’t going to be shown soon, and the earliest the public will be able to see it is E3 2010. The battles for the game will be like Kingdom Hearts, but with some Final Fantasy elements added to it. Final Fantasy Agito XIII will be fairly difficult, and the battle system shown off at TGS is close to the final version.

Final Fantasy XIII
- There will be no PS3 install.
- Game saves will be around 500kb.
- There are few load times, and are only seen when going between towns and the field.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII
- The footage at TGS was just test footage, and will not actually be in the game at all.
- The battles will be an extension of the Kingdom Hearts battle system, but with some traditional Final Fantasy elements as well.
- Lots of emphasis is going towards the level design.
- There will be a partner system, with your ally moving independently to each other.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII
- The battle system shown at TGS is close to the finalized battle system.
- The game will be fairly difficult.

Versus and Agito at TGS

Despite a report by Tetsuya Nomura at the FFXIII Premiere Party that Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII would not show up at TGS this year, they so happen to be at the event. Though, the games were shown at a closed theater like place, so no footage is available on the internet of them. Some people were able to see the footage of both games, and there are reports of what were shown off. With Final Fantasy Versus XIII, a series of clips showed Noctis moving around through the streets of a European-style city, first surrounded by other people, and then alone at night. Next, the footage switched to Noctis moving about a vast field. Here, he was joined by monsters, some massive. With Final Fantasy Agito XIII, the characters’ battle menu palette changes depending on the character. While fight and defend/evade were always there, two other commands would change between such things as Snipe, Black Hole, Nebula.

No Versus and Agito Images at TGS

Famitsu has recently sat down with Tetsuya Nomura, and asked him a few questions. He said, “We will not be showing new images for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII…” in response to the question about what Square Enix is going to show at the Tokyo Game Show in September. This most likely means that all focus will be on Final Fantasy XIII, the Final Fantasy which is hitting store shelves and only on the Playstation 3 console in Japan. When will new information on Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII come out, it is unknown.
