About Final Fantasy XIII

The first next-generation Final Fantasy title to hit the PLAYSTATION®3, as well as the Xbox 360, will be Final Fantasy XIII; to power this game Square-Enix created an engine named Crystal Tools, which was formally known as the White Engine. With the help of Crystal Tools, Final Fantasy XIII will be able to take advantage of four of the seven SPEs on the cell processor, which is the CPU inside of the PS3. There are currently six SPEs available to game developers, and no game has used more than three so far; expect to see XIII do some great new things with this technology. However, there is no word yet on how much XIII will take advantage from the Xbox 360. The release dates for this game are Winter 2009 in Japan, and Spring 2010 for North America and Europe. Japan will receive the game first on the PLAYSTATION®3 and only on that system, then the game will be ported to the Xbox 360 and released at the same time as the PLAYSTATION®3 version in America and Europe.
